Taranto (; ; Ancient Greek: Taras; Modern Greek: Tarantas; Tarantino "Tarde") is a coastal city in Apulia, Southern Italy. It is the capital of the Province of Taranto and is an important commercial port as well as the main Italian naval base.

Tarent
Tarent [] (italienisch Táranto [], , lateinisch: Tarentum) ist die Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz Tarent und liegt in Apulien (Süditalien), am Golf von Tarent im Ionischen Meer. Tarent hat Einwohner (Stand ). Sie ist die Stadt der zwei Meere und der Drehbrücke, deren antikes Zentrum eine kleine Insel bildet, die das Mittelmeer (Mar Grande) von einer hinter der Insel liegenden Lagune (Mar Piccolo) trennt.

Tarent
Tarent (wł. Taranto, łac. Tarentum) – miasto i gmina w w regionie Apulia, w prowincji Tarent, w południowych Włoszech. Ważny handlowy i wojenny port morski na Morzu Śródziemnym, ośrodek przemysłu stalowego, chemicznego i spożywczego. W mieście znajdują się stocznie wojenne.
Wg danych na rok 2004 gminę zamieszkuje 201 349 osób, 927,9 os./km². [1]
W starożytności miasto usytuowane było na półwyspie chronionym przez wzgórze, obecnie wznosi się na miejscu dawnej greckiej nekropolii. Port handlowy znajduje się w zatoce Mar Grande chronionej przez wysepki San Pietro i San Paolo, a port wojenny w zatoce Mar Piccolo w części miasta oddzielonej od reszty przekopanym w XIX w. kanałem. Wybrzeże morskie w okolicach portu jest silnie ufortyfikowane.
