Taiwan

Taiwan (; Taiwanese: Tâi-oân) is an island in East Asia. "Taiwan" is also commonly used to refer to the territories administered by the Republic of China (ROC) and to ROC itself, which governs the island of Taiwan, Lanyu (Orchid Island) and Green Island in the Pacific off the Taiwan coast, the Pescadores in the Taiwan Strait, and Kinmen and the Matsu Islands off the coast of mainland Fujian. The island groups of Taiwan and Penghu (except the municipalities of Taipei and Kaohsiung) are officially administered as Taiwan Province of the Republic of China.

Taiwan ist eine Insel vor dem chinesischen Festland im West-Pazifik, getrennt durch die Taiwan-Straße. Taiwan wurde 1945 nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges und der Niederlage der Japaner in die Republik China eingegliedert. Es bildet seit 1949 den Hauptteil der Republik, nachdem sich die Truppen Chiang Kai-Sheks nach dem verlorenen Bürgerkrieg gegen die Rote Armee Mao Zedongs auf die Insel zurückgezogen hatten. Gleichzeitig wird Taiwan von der Volksrepublik China beansprucht, wurde jedoch nie von ihr kontrolliert. Dies schlägt sich im Taiwan-Konflikt nieder. Administrativ ist die Insel bei beiden Staaten als Teil der Provinz Taiwan zugeordnet.

Tajwan (Formoza) to wyspa na Oceanie Spokojnym, oddzielona od Chin kontynentalnych Cieśniną Tajwańską. Jest wyspą w większości wyżynną. Tylko obrzeża Tajwanu są nizinne. Portugalska nazwa Formoza znaczy piękna.

La Repubblica di Cina (Taiwan) (cinese tradizionale: 中華民國;  cinese semplificato: 中华民国;  Wade-Giles: Chung-hua Min-kuo, Tongyong Pinyin: JhongHuá MínGuó, Hanyu Pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó,  Gwoyeu Romatzyh: Jonghwa Mingwo) è uno stato democratico, composto de facto dal gruppo di isole di Taiwan, Pescadores, Quemoy, e Matsu ma, nella sua costituzione, include anche la Cina continentale e la Mongolia. Attualmente il nome "Taiwan" viene generalmente usato come sinonimo di Repubblica di Cina mentre il nome "Cina" indica usualmente la Repubblica Popolare Cinese che controlla la Cina continentale, Hong Kong, e Macao.

Taiwan (Cinese Tradizionale: 臺灣,  Cinese Semplificato: 台湾) è un'isola dell'Estremo Oriente (nota anche con il nome portoghese di Formosa). Per estensione il nome dell'isola, Taiwan appunto, viene anche comunemente usato per indicare la Repubblica di Cina.
