Tactical bombing

Tactical bombing uses aircraft to attack troops and military equipment in the battle zone. This is in contrast to strategic bombing, which attacks an enemy's cities and factories to debilitate the enemy's capacity to wage war as well as the civilian population's will to continue the war. Tactical bombing began in World War I when pilots dropped small bombs over the side of their open cockpits onto enemy troops below. By World War II, a number of specialized aircraft were developed to fulfill the role, but often strike fighters and fighter-bombers were used. For instance, in the Korean War, tactical missions were carried out by WWII-era fighters such as the F4U Corsair. In Vietnam, tactical missions were often directed by forward air controllers (FACs) flying small propeller planes. The FAC would mark targets with smoke, often in coordination with infantry on the ground. The bombers orbiting overhead would then roll in to hit the target.

Essa é a diferença para o bombardeio estratégico, que ataca a infraestrutura industrial e civil do inimigo, visando debilitar sua capacidade de manter o esforço de guerra. Há dois tipos básicos de bombardeio tático:O apoio aéreo aproximado ataca alvos localizados em grande proximidades às tropas terrestres amigas, agindo em direto suporte e em total coordenação com as forlas terrestres. A interdição aérea ataca, ao contrário, alvos táticos que não estão diretamente em contato com as tropas amigas, e sim as estradas, depósitos, equipamentos e estruturas envolvidas no suprimento logístico às tropas inimigas em combate.

Taktisk bombning foregår, hvor man på slagmarken bomber fjendtlige styrker. Modsat strategisk bombning hvor man angriber fjendens infrastruktur.Taktisk bombning begyndte under første verdenskrig hvor små fly droppede bomber ud over siden på deres åbne cockpits. Under anden verdenskrig udviklede man specialiserede fly til det, såkaldte jagerbombere. Under Koreakrigen blev taktiske bombninger udført af blandt andet F4U Corsair. Senere i Vietnamkrigen blev missionerne ofte støttet af fremskudte observatører og koordineret med infanteriet på jorden.
