IPA: ) is a mid-sized urban port city in
Washington,
United States. The city is situated on Washington's
Puget Sound, in an area 32 miles (51 km) southwest of
Seattle, 31 miles (50 km) northeast of the State capital,
Olympia, and 58 miles (93 km) northwest of
Mount Rainier National Park. According to
2007 Washington State OFM estimates, Tacoma has an estimated population of 201,700. Tacoma stands as the second-largest city in the Puget Sound area, the third-largest in the state, and the
seat of government of
Pierce County.
