فهرس

الفهرس هو قائمة المحتويات للكتب ووقد جاء في معجم لسان العرب معنى كلمة فهرس على النحو التالي: الفهرس هو الكتاب الذي تجمع فيه الكتب. ويبدو واضحاً أن مفهوم الفهرس قديماً كان يعني ضمن ما يعنيه قائمة المحتويات للكتاب علماً بأن الفرق كبير بينهما. وكلمة فهرس معربة من كلمة فهرست الفارسية وتعني "قائمة كتب" أو "قائمة مواضيع". وقد استخدم ابن النديم هذا اللفظ عندما اطلقه على كتاب الفهرست عام 377 للهجرة (987 للميلاد).
