tv
For the former British television channel, see
.tv (TV channel) .tv is the
Internet country code top-level domain (
ccTLD) for the island nation of
Tuvalu. Except for reserved names like .com.tv, .net.tv, .org.tv and others, any person in the world can register a .tv domain for a fee. The Tuvalu government receives a quarterly payment of
$1,000,000 for use of the top-level domain. The domain name is popular, and thus economically valuable, because it is an
abbreviation of the word '
television' (other similar ccTLDs are
.fm,
.am,
.cd, and
.dj). The domain is currently operated by dotTV, a
VeriSign company. The Tuvalu government owns twenty percent of the company.

Television (often abbreviated to TV, T.V., or more recently, tv; sometimes called telly, the tube, boob tube, or idiot box in
British English) is a widely used
telecommunication system for
broadcasting and receiving
moving pictures and
sound over a distance. The term may also be used to refer specifically to a television set,
programming or television
transmission. The word is derived from mixed
Latin and
Greek roots, meaning "far sight": Greek tele , far, and Latin vision, sight (from video, vis- to see, or to view in the first person).
