TEMPERATURE INVERSION

In meteorology, an inversion is a deviation from the normal change of an atmospheric property with altitude. It almost always refers to a temperature inversion, i.e., an increase in temperature with height, or to the layer within which such an increase occurs. [1]An inversion can lead to pollution such as smog being trapped close to the ground, with possible adverse effects on health. An inversion can also suppress convection by acting as a "cap". If this cap is broken for any of several reasons, convection of any moisture present can then erupt into violent thunderstorms.

Eine Inversionswetterlage ist eine Wetterlage, die durch eine Umkehr (Inversion) des atmosphärischen Temperaturgradienten geprägt ist. In der Folge steigt die Lufttemperatur mit der Höhe an, was die Schichtungsstabilität der Troposphäre und insbesondere alle konvektiven Prozesse beeinflusst. Der Bereich, in dem diese Inversion auftritt, wird als Inversionsschicht bezeichnet.

Inwersja temperatury (inwersja termiczna lub po prostu inwersja) to w meteorologii zjawisko atmosferyczne polegające na wzroście temperatury powietrza wraz z wysokością.W normalnych warunkach, w najniższej części atmosfery, troposferze, powietrze bliżej powierzchni ziemi jest cieplejsze niż wyżej. Dzieje się tak dlatego, że powietrze ogrzewa się od nagrzanej powierzchni ziemi a tak ogrzane powietrze, unosi się do góry w wyniku konwekcji. Unoszące się powietrze ochładza się w wyniku przemiany adiabatycznej (wyżej jest mniejsze ciśnienie). Czasami w wyniku zjawisk zachodzących w atmosferze dochodzi do odwrotnego układu temperatur niż zazwyczaj.

Een inversie is een term uit de meteorologie die aangeeft dat de temperatuur in een laag van de atmosfeer een omgekeerd verloop heeft dan normaliter het geval is. Normaal wordt het steeds kouder, hoe hoger men in de troposfeer (onderste 11 km. van de atmosfeer) komt. Bij een inversie wordt het over een gedeelte van de hoogte steeds warmer.
