TDRSS

The Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) is a network of communications satellites (each called a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite or TDRS) and ground stations used by NASA for space communications. The system was designed to replace an existing network of ground stations that had supported all of NASA's manned flight missions. The prime design goal was to increase the time spacecraft were in communication with the ground and improve the amount of data that could be transferred.

Les Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) ( Satellite de suivi et de relais de données) est un satellite de télécommunications du Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) utilisé par la NASA et d'autres agences gouvernementales aux États-Unis pour communiquer avec des satellites ou la Station Spatiale Internationale. Le système a été développé pour remplacer un réseau existant de stations au sol qui permettait la communication avec les Vols habités de la NASA. Le but premier était d'améliorer le temps où la navette était en communication avec le sol et d'augmenter la quantité de données qui pouvait être transféré.

Die Tracking and Data Relay Satelliten (TDRS) (englisch für Kursverfolgungs- und Datenrelaissatellit) bilden ein Netzwerk von Kommunikationssatelliten, das von der NASA und anderen US-Regierungsbehörden für die Kommunikation zu Satelliten, zum Space Shuttle und zur Internationalen Raumstation genutzt wird. Das System wurde entwickelt, um das existierende Netzwerk aus Bodenstationen zu ersetzen, das alle bemannten Missionen der NASA bis dahin unterstützt hatte. Hauptziel der Entwicklung war die Erhöhung der Zeitdauer, in der Raumfahrzeuge mit der Bodenstation kommunizieren können und die Erhöhung der Bandbreite.

TDRSS (ang. Tracking and Data Realy Satellites System) oznacza satelitarny system śledzenia i przekazywania danych. Służy do utrzymywania łączności pomiędzy naziemnym centrum satelitarnym a satelitami niskoorbitowymi,  Międzynarodową Stacją Kosmiczną oraz wahadłowcami. Jest głównie wykorzystywany przez NASA oraz rząd Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki. Głównym celem podczas opracowywania tego systemu było zwiększenie czasu oraz ilości przekazywanych danym między stacją naziemną a wahadłowcem.
