TACT

Tact is a careful consideration of one's current situation and surroundings, and acting accordingly.For example, with respect to interpersonal relationships, tact is a careful consideration of the feelings and values of another so as to create harmonious relationships with a reduced potential for conflict or offense.Tact in a military sense is the basis for tactics. An element is said to be tactical when their actions are in accordance with the military situation (presence or lack of enemy, illumination, inclement weather, etc).

Taktgefühl (veraltet auch: Zartsinn) ist die umgangssprachliche Bezeichnung für die – ggf. erworbene – Charaktereigenschaft, im Umgang mit anderen diesen jede Beschämung zu ersparen, ohne doch von seinen eigenen Grundsätzen abzugehen. Wesentlicher Bestandteil eines sicheren Taktgefühls (eines taktvollen Handelns) ist es, dass seine Ausübung von der oder dem anderen gar nicht bemerkt wird, jedenfalls keinerlei (auch zum Beispiel nur mimischen) Kommentars bedarf.Taktgefühl wird durch Vorbild und Weltkenntnis erworben oder bestärkt und setzt bewährte Toleranz voraus. Es ist deshalb nicht gang und gäbe.

Tact wordt in het algemeen gedefinieerd als een "gevoel voor hetgeen in een situatie passend is" en een "bekwaamheid om in het maatschappelijk verkeer op de juiste, gepaste of gewenste wijze op te treden". Tact is een deugd die erg van pas komt in de diplomatie.
