"AMPS" redirects here. AMPS is also an
initialism for the "All Media and Products Survey" published by the South African Advertising Research Foundation. Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) is the
analog mobile phone system standard developed by
Bell Labs, and officially introduced in the
Americas in 1983. It was the primary
analog mobile phone system in
North America (and other locales) through the 1980s and into the 2000s, and is still widely available today, although use has dropped considerably with the introduction of various digital standards.
