T-Shirt

A T-shirt (or tee shirt) is a shirt, usually buttonless, collarless, and pocketless, with a round neck and short sleeves, that is pulled on over the head and covers most of a person's torso. The sleeves of the T-shirt extend at least slightly over the shoulder but not completely over the elbow. A shirt that is either longer or shorter than this ceases to be a T-shirt. While the term "long-sleeved T-shirt" is often accepted as a type of shirt, "long-sleeved T-shirts" are technically not T-shirts at all, but have merely been given this name due to their thin fabric and similarity in design to a true T-shirt.

Le tee-shirt ou T-shirt est un maillot de corps en général aux manches courtes fait en coton ou en fibres polyester qui doit son nom à sa forme en T. Il était originellement porté comme sous-vêtement mais est désormais surtout employé comme un vêtement à part entière marquant la décontraction de son porteur, spécialement l'été. Il s'enfile par la tête grâce à son encolure élastique.

Può essere confezionata a maniche lunghe o a maniche corte, in tinta unica oppure in fantasia multi-colore.Ormai largamente diffusa in tutto il mondo, è stata prodotta a partire dall'inizio del XX secolo, anche se la sua affermazione su scala mondiale si è avuta solo dagli anni quaranta, quando la Marina degli Stati Uniti d'America sfruttò la shirt (maglietta a girocollo) come parte della divisa per i propri marinai. La maglia bianca dei soldati USA si diffuse poi largamente in Europa durante la seconda guerra mondiale.
