Syr-daria

Syr Darya (; ; ; , also transliterated Syrdarya or Sirdaryo) is a river in Central Asia, sometimes known as the Jaxartes or Yaxartes from its Ancient Greek name . The Greek name is derived from Old Persian, Yakhsha Arta ("Great Pearly"), a reference to the color of the river's water. In medieval Islamic writings, the river is uniformly know as Sayhoun (سيحون) - after one of the four rivers of Paradise. (Amu Darya was likewise known as Jayhoun, the name of another one of the four).

Syr-daria (w starożytności Jaksartes; turkm. Syr-derýa - "tajemnicza rzeka") - to rzeka w Uzbekistanie, Tadżykistanie i Kazachstanie. Długość 2212 km, powierzchnia  dorzecza 219 tys. km². Powstaje z połączenia rzek Naryn i Kara-daria (jej długość od źródeł Narynu wynosi 3019 km). Przepływa przez Kotlinę Fergańską oraz wschodnią część pustyni Kyzył-kum. Rzeka do lat 80. XX wieku uchodziła deltą do Jeziora Aralskiego, od tego czasu, z powodu nadmiernego wyzyskiwania do nawadniania, wysycha zanim dotrze do jeziora.

Il Syr Darya (in farsi سيردريا, tradotto anche come Syrdarja) è un fiume dell'Asia centrale, conosciuto dai greci come Jaxartes o Yaxartes (dal greco antico ).Nato dalla confluenza dei Kara Darya e Naryn nelle montagne del Tien Shan, il fiume attraversa tutto il Kirghizistan, la parte orientale dell'Uzbekistan e quella meridionale del Kazakistan fino al Lago d'Aral per un totale di circa 2.212 km. Nel suo lungo corso, il Syr Darya fornisce l'acqua per irrigare la zona dell'Asia Centrale con le migliori coltivazioni di cotone.
