Syndrome
In medicine and psychology, the term syndrome refers to the association of several clinically recognizable features, signs (discovered by a physician), symptoms (reported by the patient), phenomena or characteristics which often occur together, so that the presence of one feature alerts the physician to the presence of the others. In recent decades the term has been used outside of medicine to refer to a combination of phenomena seen in association.

Das Syndrom (griechisch σύνδρομο, von συν~, syn~: zusammen~, mit~ und δρόμος, drómos: der Weg, der Lauf) ist in der Medizin das gleichzeitige Vorliegen verschiedener Merkmale (Symptome), zum Beispiel Krankheitssymptome, mit meist einheitlicher Ätiologie (= Ursachen) und wenig bekannter Pathogenese.In der Medizin gibt es häufig den Fall, dass mehrere Symptome regelmäßig in Kombination auftreten, was bei der Diagnose einer bestimmten Krankheit helfen kann. Beispiele:apallisches Syndromadrenogenitales SyndromAlterssyndromepostthrombotisches Syndromvegetatives SyndromAIDS, die Abkürzung für "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome", dt.: "Erworbenes Immunschwächesyndrom"

Sindrome
Con sindrome si intende, in medicina, un insieme di sintomi e segni clinici (quadro sintomatologico) che può essere dovuto a più malattie o a più eziologie.Spesso, erroneamente, si intende con sindrome un quadro la cui eziologia non è nota.A complicare le cose, il termine sindrome viene utilizzato spesso per indicare una malattia rara (la cui eziologia è spesso ben precisa), proprio perché il quadro sintomatologico è di difficile interpretazione.
