Warren Buffett was born in
Omaha, Nebraska. Her father, William Thompson, was a dean at the
University of Omaha.While studying at
Northwestern University, she was introduced to Warren Buffett by her roommate, Buffett's sister Roberta. Susan and Warren married in
1952 and had three children: Susie,
Peter, and
Howard. Deciding to "pursue a singing career," Susan left her husband in
1977, and she moved from Nebraska to
San Francisco. They remained married and on good terms, vacationing together and spending time assisting charitable groups. In
1978 Susan introduced Warren to Astrid Menks, who eventually moved in with him. In
2006 he married Miss Menks, who had never been married before.
