Suez Canal

The Suez Canal (, ), is a large artificial canal in Egypt, west of the Sinai Peninsula. It is 163 km (101 miles) long and 300 m (984 ft) wide at its narrowest point, and runs between Port Said (Būr Sa'īd) on the Mediterranean Sea, and Suez (al-Suways) on the Red Sea.The canal allows two-way water transportation, most importantly between Europe and Asia without circumnavigation of Africa. Before its opening in 1869, goods were sometimes offloaded from ships and carried over land between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.The canal comprises seven parts, north and south of the Great Bitter Lake, linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Gulf of Suez on the Red Sea.

Der 163 km lange Sueskanal (auch Suezkanal, , Qanat as-Suwais) ist ein künstlicher Wasserweg vom Mittelmeer zum Roten Meer über die nur 113 km breite Landenge von Sues. Der Sueskanal verbindet die zwei Hafenstädte Port Said und Sues miteinander. Seit seiner Errichtung ist es nicht mehr notwendig, den ganzen Kontinent Afrika zu umrunden, um auf dem Seeweg von Europa nach Asien zu fahren.

Kanał Sueski (arab. قناة السويس [Qanā al-Suways]) — wykopany w latach 1859-1869 kanał głębokowodny dla statków morskich, łączący Morze Śródziemne z Morzem Czerwonym. W południowej części trasa kanału przebiega przez jezioro At-Timsah, Wielkie Jezioro Gorzkie i Małe Jezioro Gorzkie.

Il Canale di Suez, , Qanat al-Suways, è un canale artificiale navigabile situato in Egitto, ad ovest della penisola del Sinai, tra Porto Said (Bûr Sa'îd) sul Mar Mediterraneo e Suez (al-Suways) sul Mar Rosso. Il canale consiste di due tratte, a nord e a sud del Grande Lago Amaro. Il canale permette il trasporto su acqua dall'Europa all'Asia, senza circumnavigare l'Africa sulla rotta del Capo di Buona Speranza, come si è fatto fino all'apertura del canale (1869). Prima della costruzione del canale, alcuni trasporti venivano effettuati sulla rotta del canale (non ancora esistente) scaricando le navi e trasportando le merci via terra dal Mediterraneo al Mar Rosso (o viceversa), dove venivano reimbarcate.
