Styria (state)

Styria (; ) is a state or Land, located in the southeast of Austria. In area, it is the second largest of the nine Austrian states, covering 16,388 km². It borders Slovenia as well as the other Austrian states of Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Burgenland, and Carinthia. The population (as of 2006) was 1,203,986. The capital city is Graz.

Das Land Steiermark (slowenisch Štajerska) ist Teil der Republik Österreich und deren flächenmäßig zweitgrößtes Bundesland. Es grenzt an die Länder Oberösterreich, Niederösterreich, Salzburg, Burgenland und Kärnten sowie im Süden an die Republik Slowenien. Die Landeshauptstadt der Steiermark ist Graz, die zweitgrößte Stadt Österreichs. Historisch ist die Steiermark ein Teil der Region Steiermark in den beiden EU-Staaten Österreich und Slowenien.

Styria (niem. Steiermark, słń. Štajerska) - kraina historyczna w środkowej Europie. Obecnie większość Styrii należy do Austrii (zob. Styria (Austria)), a południowa część, zwana też Styrią Dolną - do Słowenii (zob. Styria (Słowenia)). W późnym średniowieczu, po zasiedleniu przez Słowian, we wschodnich Alpach powstało Księstwo Styrii, należące do Królestwa Wschodniofrankijskiego. W drugiej połowie XII wieku władzę nad nim na krótko przejął król czeski Przemysł Ottokar II. Jednak po jego klęsce w walce z Rudolfem Habsburgiem w 1278 roku Księstwo Austrii i Księstwo Styrii przeszły pod panowanie dynastii Habsburgów, stając się jednym z fundamentów ich monarchii.

Confina con la Slovenia (regioni Oltremura/Prekmurje, Stiria/Štajerska e Carinzia/Koroška) a sud e con i Länder dell'Alta Austria e della Bassa Austria a nord, del Salisburghese a ovest, del Burgenland a est e della Carinzia a sud-ovest.
