Stuart Gordon (born August 11, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois) is a director, writer and producer of films and plays. Most of Gordon's film work is in the horror genre, though he has also ventured into science fiction. Like his friend and fellow filmmaker Brian Yuzna, Gordon is a fan of H. P. Lovecraft and has adapted several Lovecraft stories for the screen. They include Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak (from The Outsider), and Dagon, as well as the Masters of Horror episode "Dreams in the Witch-House".

Er begann seine Karriere mit dem Kultfilm Re-Animator im Jahre 1985, mit welchem er großen Einfluss auf das Genre des Splatterfilms hatte.

Intorno al 1967 Stuart Gordon frequenta l'università a Chicago, nella quale alterna la carriera scolastica alla direzione teatrale. Con la sua compagnia di attori (la Screw Theater), sottolineano il realismo e la crudezza delle scene, attirando così l'attenzione di molta gente ed una denuncia per oscenità, accusa che cadrà lo stesso anno. Gordon lascia l'universtà concentrandosi sul teatro e fonda l'Organic Theater. Nel 1969 Stuart Gordon si sposa con l'attrice Carolyn Purdy. La compagnia Screw Theater continua con il loro successo, spostandosi da Los Angeles all'Europa. Dopo il teatro Gordon decide di dedicarsi al piccolo schermo e scrive subito un film per la TV (Bleacher Bums) e due episodi per il serial ''E.R. Medici in prima linea''. Con il ricavato fonda la casa di produzione Empire Pictures con il socio Charles Band. Esordisce sul grande schermo nel 1985 con il film horror Re-Animator e l'aiuto dell'amico Brian Yuzna. Dirigerà l'attore Oliver Reed ne Il pozzo e il pendolo e Christopher Lambert in 2013: La fortezza con molto successo. Molto amico del regista italiano Dario Argento, firma due episodi del serial Masters of Horror. Le sue vicissitudini familiari che si rompono e si spezzano per via di un intervento soprannaturale, fanno di Stuart Gordon uno dei registi d'horror statunitensi più creativi dal 1985 a oggi. Gordon ha tre figlie: Jillian Bess Gordon, Margaret Berni Gordon e Suzanna Katherine Gordon.
