Stoke-on-Trent (often abbreviated to Stoke) is a city in Staffordshire, in the West Midlands region of England.The city is a federation of six older towns: (Hanley, Stoke, Burslem, Tunstall, Longton, and Fenton). Together, they make a linear city almost twelve miles long, with an area of 36 square miles.With the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme it forms a conurbation, whilst together with the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme it forms The Potteries Urban Area, which added with the Staffordshire Moorlands forms the North Staffordshire area. In 2001, it had a population of 240,636.

Stoke-on-Trent est une ville britannique située jadis dans le Staffordshire mais qui constitue une autorité unitaire depuis 1997. Elle a le statut de Cité. Sa population est estimée à 260 000 habitants (agglomération : 362 000 habitants). La ville se découpe en plusieurs quartiers : le centre ville étant Hanley, réputé pour son centre commercial : le Pottery center ; Fenton ; Longton ; Burslem ; Tunstall ; Stoke-upon-Trent. On compte environ 14 000 étudiants sur le campus universitaire. La ville est très connue pour sa poterie. Autrefois il y avait beaucoup d'usines et il existe aujourd'hui des entreprises renommées comme Josiah Wedgwood.

Die Stadt Stoke-on-Trent (auch The Six Towns (engl. die sechs Städte) oder The Potteries (die Töpfereien) genannt) ist eine Verschmelzung mehrerer Städte in den Midlands in England.Stoke-on-Trent liegt in fast gleicher Entfernung zu den größeren Städten im Norden Englands wie Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Liverpool und Sheffield. Die Stadt selbst hat ihren Namen vom Stadtbezirk Stoke-upon-Trent. Die städtische Bebauung fließt in die Stadt Newcastle-under-Lyme hinein, die aber selbständig verwaltet wird. Beide Städte haben gemeinsam eine Bevölkerung von etwa 350.000 Einwohnern.

Stoke-on-Trent (o semplicemente Stoke) è una città di 238.000 abitanti nella contea dello Staffordshire, nel nord-ovest dell'Inghilterra, accanto all'autostrada M6.Si tratta di un'autorità unitaria con status di city. Stoke-on-Trent è famosa per le sue ceramiche e i suoi musei d'arte e artigianato; in particolare il Gladstone Pottery Museum è un'attrattiva importante e particolare, in quanto è l'unico museo in Gran Bretagna dove si può ancora vedere realmente come i vasai lavoravano e vivevano all'epoca vittoriana nel XIX secolo. È presente una caratteristica stazione ferroviaria in stile vittoriano, finita di realizzare nel 1848 dal progetto di H. A. Hunt.
