Star Wars is an epic space opera franchise and a fictional universe initially developed by George Lucas during the 1970s and expanded since that time. The first film was Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope), which was released on May 25, 1977 by 20th Century Fox. The film became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, spawning two sequels subtitled The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Twenty-two years after the first Star Wars film was released, a prequel trilogy, set before the original trilogy, was released.

Star Wars (dt. Krieg der Sterne) ist eine vom Drehbuchautor, Produzent und Regisseur George Lucas erdachte Science-Fiction-Saga. Sie begann mit dem Film Krieg der Sterne (Neuer, eigentlicher Titel seit 1997: Eine neue Hoffnung - in Deutschland manifestierte sich die Übersetzung von "Star Wars" [Krieg der Sterne] als Titel), der am 25. Mai 1977 in den amerikanischen und am 2. Februar 1978 in den deutschen Kinos anlief. Der Film entwickelte sich zu einem Phänomen der heutigen Popkultur. Fünf weitere Spielfilme folgten, sowie eine Reihe von lizenzierten Büchern, Comic-Heften, Videospielen, Nebenfilmen, Fernsehserien, Spielzeugen, Kostümen, Rollenspielen und anderen Produkten.

Guerre Stellari, in originale Star Wars, è una celebre saga fantascientifica ideata dal regista statunitense George Lucas e narrata principalmente in sei opere cinematografiche che hanno influenzato fortemente la storia del cinema. Il primo film esce nelle sale cinematografiche degli Stati Uniti, paese di produzione, il 25 maggio 1977 e da allora è un ininterrotto successo di pubblico e di fan in tutto il mondo. A tutt'oggi l'esalogia di Guerre Stellari è la saga cinematografica che ha incassato di più nella storia del cinema.
