Stadt

Stad (Stadt, Statt or Stadlandet, not to be confused with the similar Deutsch Stadt, and Deitsch Stad ; the d is pronounced t) is a peninsula in the Norwegian municipality of Selje. It has a very harsh wind climate; the highest wind speed in the country is often recorded at this promontory.Because of the harsh climate the peninsula can be an obstacle for ship transport along the coast of Norway. It is among other things the main obstacle for the establishment of a fast boat passenger route from Bergen to Ålesund. Plans are therefore currently underway to build a ship tunnel at Sandvikeidet on Stad with capacity to take large ships such as the Hurtigruten vessels.

Eine Stadt (von althochdt.: stat = Standort, Stelle; etymologisch eins mit Statt, Stätte; vgl. dagegen Staat) ist eine größere, zentralisierte und abgegrenzte Siedlung mit einer eigenen Verwaltungs- und Versorgungsstruktur im Schnittpunkt größerer Verkehrswege. Damit ist fast jede Stadt zugleich ein zentraler Ort. Ihre Einwohnerschaft kann ethnisch, sprachlich, sozial, kulturell, konfessionell etc. äußerst vielfältig sein.

Stad (Statt, Stadt) (Stadlandet, d kan uttales tt) er ei halvøy i Selje kommune som stikker ut i havet, og utgjør den nordvestligste delen av Sogn og Fjordane fylke. 1006 innbyggere (2008). Ca. 400 bor i Leikanger som er handels-, skole- og kommunikasjonssenter.
