St. Lucia

Saint Lucia (IPA: ) is an island nation in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north of the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It is also known as the "Helen of the West Indies" because the island switched between British and French control so often it was likened to the mythical Helen of Troy.

St. Lucia (Landessprache: []) ist ein unabhängiger Inselstaat im Commonwealth of Nations. Es liegt nördlich von St. Vincent und den Grenadinen und südlich von Martinique.Der Staat liegt im Bereich der Westindischen Inseln und gehört zu den Kleinen Antillen. St. Lucia ist die drittgrößte der Windward Islands und Teil der Inseln über dem Winde. Ihr Hauptmerkmal sind die bewaldeten Berge, die sich von Nord nach Süd erstrecken und von Flusstälern durchschnitten sind. Die höchste Erhebung des Landes ist der Mount Gimie mit 950 m. Im Südwesten liegt Qualibou, ein Gebiet mit 18 Lavakuppen und 7 Kratern. Im Westen wird der Zugang zum Hafen Jalousie Plantation Harbour durch die Twin Pitons (Gros Piton, 797 m und Petit Piton, 750 m) markiert, 2 Gipfel, die 800 m steil aus dem Meer aufragen und das Wahrzeichen der Insel sind. Die wichtigsten Flüsse des Landes sind der Cul de Sac und der Canelles. Nachbarinseln von St. Lucia sind Martinique im Norden und St. Vincent im Süden. Hauptstadt und größte Stadt des Landes ist Castries. Die Küstenlinie hat eine Länge von 158 km. Die Insel ist an ihrer längsten Stelle 43,5 km lang und an ihrer breitesten Stelle 22,5 km breit.
