Sport Utility Vehicle

A sport utility vehicle, or SUV, is a passenger vehicle  which combines the towing capacity of a pickup truck with the passenger-carrying space of a minivan or station wagon  together with on or off road ability. Most SUVs are designed with a roughly square cross-section, an engine compartment, a combined passenger and cargo compartment, and no dedicated trunk. Most mid-size and full-size SUVs have three rows of seats with a cargo area directly behind the last row of seats. Compact SUVs and mini SUVs, such as the Toyota RAV4, may have five or fewer seats.

Un SUV (abréviation de l'anglais Sport Utility Vehicle, aussi appelé VUS au Québec, abréviation du terme français équivalent : Véhicule Utilitaire Sport) est un véhicule de loisirs bicorps, pouvant posséder certaines capacités de roulage hors route ou de remorquage. Ein Sport Utility Vehicle (abgekürzt SUV) ist ein Pkw mit ähnlichem Fahrkomfort wie eine Limousine, jedoch mit erhöhter Geländegängigkeit und optischen Anleihen an einen Geländewagen. Die Geländetauglichkeit ist sehr unterschiedlich von Modell zu Modell, manche SUVs verfügen nicht einmal über  Allradantrieb, da SUVs vorwiegend im Straßenverkehr genutzt werden.

Samochód użytku sportowego (ang.: Sport Utility Vehicle w skrócie SUV) – pod tym pojęciem kryje się auto, mające połączyć cechy luksusowego samochodu osobowego i terenowego. Od tego ostatniego różni się tym, że może, ale nie musi, radzić sobie w terenie i zawsze zapewnia wysoki komfort podróżowania, w przeciwieństwie do spartańsko wyposażonych i czasem twardo zawieszonych aut terenowych, jak np. Land Rover Defender.
