The Magellanic Penguin, Spheniscus magellanicus, is a South American penguin, breeding in coastal Argentina, Chile and the Falkland Islands, with some migrating to Brazil where they are occasionally seen as far north as Rio de Janeiro. It is the most numerous of the Spheniscus penguins. Its nearest relatives are the African, the Humboldt and the Galápagos Penguins. They are native to the Strait of Magellan in the cool climate of southern Chile, hence the name's origin.

Ihren wissenschaftlichen Namen erhielt die Art wegen ihrer Häufigkeit an den Küsten der „Terra Magellanica“, die etwa dem Gebiet von Patagonien entspricht.

O pinguim-de-magalhães (Spheniscus magellanicus) é um pinguim sul-americano característico de águas temperadas. A espécie habita as zonas costeiras da Argentina, Chile e Ilhas Malvinas (ou Falkland Islands, em inglês, o idioma falado pelos habitantes desta ilha), migrando por vezes até ao Brasil no Oceano Atlântico ou até ao Peru, no caso das populações do Oceano Pacífico. Estes animais são classificados no género Spheniscus juntamente com o pinguim das Galápagos e o pinguim de Humboldt.
