Sowjet

Sowjet was a German monthly communist publication, edited by Paul Levi. The first issue was published July 1 1919. Following Levi's expulsion from the United Communist Party of Germany, the journal, from July 1 1921, changed its orientation and was henceforth published under the name of Unser Weg. By the end of 1922 it ceased publication.

Sowjet (russisch: = Rat) war die Bezeichnung für bestimmte Verwaltungsorgane in der UdSSR. Ursprünglich waren Sowjets die aus den Revolutionen von 1905 und 1917 hervorgegangenen basisdemokratischen Selbstverwaltungsorgane der Arbeiter, Bauern und Soldaten. Im krassen Widerspruch zur Grundidee des Rätesystems wurden die 1936 von Stalin eingeführten machtlosen parlamentarischen Führungsgremien ebenfalls Sowjets genannt.
