The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (abbreviated USSR, ; tr.: Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik, SSSR), also called the Soviet Union (Russian: Сове́тский Сою́з; tr.: Sovetskiy Soyuz), was a constitutionally socialist state that existed in Eurasia from 1922 to 1991. It was often incorrectly, and sometimes intentionally incorrectly, referred to as Russia after its largest and dominant constituent state. From 1945 until its dissolution in 1991 — a period known as the Cold War—the Soviet Union and the United States of America were the two world superpowers that dominated the global agenda of economic policy, foreign affairs, military operations, cultural exchange, scientific advancements including the pioneering of space exploration, and sports (including the Olympic Games and various world championships).

L’Union des républiques socialistes soviétiques ou l’Union soviétique, abrégé en URSS (en russe : Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, abrégé en : СССР ; prononcé: Soïouz Sovietskikh Sotsialistitchieskikh Riespoublik, SSSR), était un État fédéral de 15 républiques soviétiques et qui a existé de 1922 jusqu'à sa dissolution en 1991.

Die Union der Sozialistischen Sowjetrepubliken (kurz UdSSR, Sowjetunion oder SU, /Sojus Sowjetskich Sozialistitscheskich Respublik (SSSR) ) war ein sozialistisch-zentralistisch regierter Vielvölkerstaat in Osteuropa, dem Kaukasus sowie Nord- und Zentral-Asien. Sie wurde am 30. Dezember 1922 gegründet und wurde am 26. Dezember 1991 durch Beschluss des Obersten Sowjets aufgelöst. Ihre völkerrechtlichen Pflichten und Rechte wurden auf die Russische SFSR (später Russische Föderation) übertragen.

Związek Socjalistycznych Republik Radzieckich, ZSRR (ros. Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, СССР, trb. Sojuz Sowietskich Socyalisticzeskich Riespublik, trl. Soûz Sovetskih Socialističeskih Respublik) lub Związek Radziecki lub Związek Sowiecki - historyczne państwo socjalistyczne w Europie północnej i wschodniej oraz Azji północnej i środkowej.
