Southern United States

The Southern United States—commonly referred to as the American South, Dixie, or simply the South—constitutes a large distinctive  region in the southeastern and south-central United States. Because of the region's unique cultural and historic heritage, including early European colonial settlements, the doctrine of states' rights, the institution of slavery and the legacy of the Confederacy during the American Civil War, the South has developed its own customs, literature, musical styles, and varied cuisines.

Le Sud des États-Unis, souvent appelé le Sud américain (anglais: American South) ou Dixie, constitue une grande région du sud-est et sud-centre des États-Unis. Le Sud a un héritage et une culture assez distincte des autres régions du pays, à cause de son histoire coloniale, son ancienne institution d'esclavage, ses traditions protestantes évangéliques, et son histoire séparatiste pendant la guerre de Sécession.

Die Südstaaten im weiteren Sinn sind eine Region der USA, die zum einen eine bestimmte kulturelle Region bildet, zum anderen eine der Bürgerkriegsparteien im Sezessionskrieg stellten. Nach der Definition des United States Census Bureau bestehen die Südstaaten aus insgesamt 16 Staaten mit knapp 100 Millionen Einwohnern auf 2.384.143 km².

A Região Sul dos Estados Unidos da América, ou simplesmente Sul, é uma região que cobre toda a região sudeste dos Estados Unidos. Devido à herança cultural e histórica única da região, o Sul desenvolveu suas próprias tradições, literatura, estilos musicais (tais como country ou o jazz) e culinária. A região Sul também se envolveu com diversos problemas enfrentados pelos Estados Unidos como um todo, incluíndo a escravidão, a Guerra Civil Americana e políticas presidenciais (com a maioria dos Presidentes americanos vindos desta região.

Sydstaterna (eng. The South, "Södern") är en benämning på den sydöstra delen av USA. Det kan definieras somde i USA där slaveri var tillåtetde delstater som anslöt sig till Amerikas konfedererade stater och gjorde uppror mot regeringen i Washington D.C. som följde efter anfallet mot Fort Sumter 1861 som snart utvecklade sig till amerikanska inbördeskriget.
