Southern France

Southern France (or the South of France), colloquially known as Le Midi, is a loosely defined geographical area consisting of the regions of France that border the Atlantic Ocean south of the Gironde,  Spain, the Mediterranean Sea, Italy, and Switzerland south of the Jura. Le Midi de la France désigne le sud de la France. Cette zone aux contours vagues tend à coïncider avec l'Occitanie, dont les contours sont plus précis. L' « accent du Midi » est en fait l'accent occitan.

Südfrankreich ist geografisch der Teil Frankreichs, der sich von einer gedachten Linie vom Zentralplateau der Alpen bis zur Mündung der Garonne in die Biskaya erstreckt. Im engeren Sinne wird als Südfrankreich der französische Anteil an der Mittelmeerküste und dessen Hinterland bezeichnet, dessen alter Name auch Okzitanien lautet und das das Land der Katharer war.
