South Korea

South Korea, officially known as the Republic of Korea (ROK) (Korean: 대한민국, , ) is an East Asian state on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. To the north, it is bordered by North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), with which it was united until 1945. To the west, across the Yellow Sea, lies China (People's Republic of China) and to the southeast, across the Korea Strait, lies Japan. Approximately one-half of South Korea's population lives in or near the capital Seoul, the country's largest city. Seoul is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world, a major centre of business and commerce in Asia and home to many of the world's largest transnational corporations such as Samsung, Hyundai, SK and LG.

La Corée du Sud ou Corée-du-Sud (rare), officiellement la République de Corée ou Pays du matin calme, est un pays d'Asie qui couvre la moitié sud de la péninsule coréenne. Sa capitale est Séoul. La langue officielle est le coréen dont l'écriture est le hangul ou hangeul et la monnaie le won.

Die in Ostasien gelegene Republik Korea, weitläufig Südkorea genannt, ist ein Staat auf dem südlichen Teil der koreanischen Halbinsel. Einziges direktes Nachbarland ist das im Norden angrenzende Nordkorea (243 km Grenzlänge), der  sozialistische Teil Koreas. Die beiden koreanischen Staaten hatten sich 1948 im aufkommenden Kalten Krieg gegründet, und die Teilung wurde mit dem folgenden Koreakrieg zementiert. Im Osten grenzt Südkorea an das Japanische Meer (in Korea als Ostmeer bezeichnet), im Süden liegt die Koreastraße und im Westen das Gelbe Meer.

Taehan Min'guk, skr. 한국; 韓國; Han'guk, Korea Południowa, ) – państwo w Azji, południowej części Półwyspu Koreańskiego powstałe po II wojnie światowej na terenach zajętych przez wojska USA. La Repubblica di Corea (in Coreano: Daehan Minguk (Hangul: 대한 민국;  Hanja: 大韓民國), chiamata comunemente Corea del Sud, occupa la metà meridionale della penisola coreana, con a nord la Corea del Nord, a ovest il Mar Giallo (e poi la Cina), a sud e a est il Mare del Giappone (e poi il Giappone). Le due coree sono ancora tecnicamente in stato di guerra (dall'armistizio del 1953), e le relazioni fra i due paesi tendono a variare repentinamente da un'estremità all'altra.
