South Dakota

South Dakota (IPA: //) is a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States of America. It is named after the Lakota and Dakota (Sioux) American Indian tribes. South Dakota was admitted to the Union on November 2, 1889. (North Dakota was admitted simultaneously.) Located in the north-central United States, South Dakota is bisected by the Missouri River, dividing the state into two socially and economically distinct halves, known to residents as "East River" and "West River." In the southwestern portion of the state rise the Black Hills, a group of low, pine-covered mountains. A region of great religious importance to local American Indians as well as a major draw for the state tourism industry, the Black Hills are also the location of Mt. Rushmore, probably the best-known location in the state and a widely-used unofficial symbol of South Dakota.

South Dakota (dt. Süddakota) ist einer der nordwestlichen Prärie-Bundesstaaten der Vereinigten Staaten. Er umfasst 199.731 km². Im Westen befinden sich die Black Hills, östlich davon die Badlands. Die größte Stadt ist Sioux Falls, die Hauptstadt ist Pierre. South Dakota beheimatet mehrere Indianerreservationen insbesondere der Lakota. Der Staat hat innerhalb der USA den zweithöchsten Indianeranteil in der Bevölkerung, nach Alaska.

Dakota Południowa - ang. South Dakota, stan w środkowo-północnej części Stanów Zjednoczonych, na obszarze Wielkich Równin. Rzeźba terenu na ogół wyżynna, z głęboko wciętymi dolinami rzeki Missouri i jej dopływów. Na zachodzie Góry Czarne (Black Hills) z najwyższym szczytem Harney Peak (2207 m n.p.m.). Nazwa stanu pochodzi od zamieszkujących tam Indian Dakota (Siuksów).

Il Dakota del Sud (South Dakota) è uno stato nelle alte pianure del Middle West settentrionale. Prende il nome dalla tribù di Nativi Americani Lakota (Sioux). Il Dakota del Sud venne ammesso nell'Unione il 2 novembre 1889. Nello stesso giorno venne ammesso anche il Dakota del Nord. In precedenza, dal 2 marzo 1861 era costituito nel Territorio del Dakota.
