South Carolina Exposition and Protest
The South Carolina Exposition and Protest, also known as Calhoun's Exposition, was written in 1828 by John C. Calhoun, in disguise under the pseudonym Mr. X. Three years later, Calhoun went public with these ideas during the Nullification Crisis. In 1828, Calhoun was Vice President of the United States under John Quincy Adams. Three years later, he was Vice President under Andrew Jackson. He resigned in 1832 in protest against Jackson's continuing support of the 1828 tariff.
