South Africa

For the southern region of Africa, see Southern Africa. The Republic of South Africa (also known by other official names) is the country at the southern tip of Africa. It borders the Atlantic and Indian oceans and Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Lesotho, an independent enclave surrounded by South African territory. South Africa is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, and, due to its having the largest economy in Africa, is the most socially, economically and infrastructurally developed country on the continent.

Die Republik Südafrika ist ein Staat an der Südspitze Afrikas. Das Land mit der Hauptstadt Pretoria liegt zwischen 22 und 35 Grad südlicher Breite sowie zwischen 17 und 33 Grad östlicher Länge. Im Süden und Südosten grenzt das Land an den Indischen Ozean und im Westen an den Atlantischen Ozean. Im Norden liegen die Nachbarländer Namibia, Botsuana und Simbabwe, östlich davon Mosambik und Swasiland. Das Königreich Lesotho ist eine Enklave, wird also vollständig von Südafrika umschlossen.

Republika Południowej Afryki (ang. Republic of South Africa) – państwo na południowym krańcu Afryki.Jego początki to dwie burskie republiki: Transwal i Orania. Burowie byli potomkami osadników holenderskich przybyłych tu w XVII wieku. Pod koniec XIX wieku wybuchły dwie wojny burskie z Wielką Brytanią. Do roku 1994 w RPA obowiązywał rasistowski system społeczny (apartheid). Postacią symbolizującą walkę z państwem prześladującym czarnych obywateli był Nelson Mandela. Za swój wkład w demokratyczne przemiany Mandela otrzymał w roku 1993 pokojową Nagrodę Nobla. Jednak od czasu przejęcia władzy przez czarnych, gwałtownie pogorszyła się sytuacja gospodarcza i wewnętrzna kraju, a dyskryminowani bywają teraz jego biali mieszkańcy. Mimo to, RPA pozostaje najbogatszym państwem na kontynencie.

Il Sudafrica è una repubblica dell'Africa del Sud. È situata nella punta meridionale del continente africano e confina a nord con la Namibia, il Botswana e lo Zimbabwe, a nord-est col Mozambico e lo Swaziland; il Lesotho è contenuto interamente all'interno dei suoi confini. Si affaccia inoltre sull'Oceano Atlantico e su quello Indiano. Cape Agulhas, il punto più a sud del continente, delimita il confine fra i due oceani (entrambi i primati sono spesso attribuiti erroneamente al più celebre Capo di Buona Speranza, che si trova sempre in Sudafrica, nei pressi di Città del Capo).
