South Dakota is a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux American Indian tribes. South Dakota is the 17th most extensive, but the 5th least populous and the 5th least densely populated of the 50 United States. Once the southern portion of the Dakota Territory, South Dakota became a state on November 2, 1889.  Pierre is the state capital and Sioux Falls, with a population of nearly 160,000, is South Dakota's largest city.

South Dakota (dt. Süddakota) ist einer der nordwestlichen Prärie-Bundesstaaten der Vereinigten Staaten. Er umfasst 199.731 km². Im Westen befinden sich die Black Hills, östlich davon die Badlands. Die größte Stadt ist Sioux Falls, die Hauptstadt ist Pierre. South Dakota beheimatet mehrere Indianerreservate insbesondere der Lakota. Der Staat hat innerhalb der USA nach Alaska, Oklahoma und New Mexico den vierthöchsten Bevölkerungsanteil von Native Americans .

Le Dakota du Sud est un État du nord des États-Unis, bordé à l'ouest par le Wyoming et le Montana, au nord par le Dakota du Nord, à l'est par le Minnesota et l'Iowa et au sud par le Nebraska.

South Dakota, Syddakota, är en delstat i norra USA. Huvudstaden heter Pierre, men största stad är Sioux Falls. Delstatens smeknamn är "The Mount Rushmore State" ("dakota" är sioux och betyder "bundsförvanter"). Delstatens motto är: "Under God the people rule vilket betyder Under Gud styr folket.

Dakota Południowa - ang. South Dakota, stan w środkowo-północnej części Stanów Zjednoczonych, na obszarze Wielkich Równin. Rzeźba terenu na ogół wyżynna, z głęboko wciętymi dolinami rzeki Missouri i jej dopływów. Na zachodzie Góry Czarne (Black Hills) z najwyższym szczytem Harney Peak (2207 m n.p.m.). Nazwa stanu pochodzi od zamieszkujących tam Indian Dakota (Siuksów).
