Sorption

Sorption refers to the action of either absorption or adsorption. As such it is the effect of gases or liquids being incorporated into a material of a different state and adhering to the surface of another molecule. Absorption is the incorporation of a substance in one state into another of a different state (e.g., liquids being absorbed by a solid or gases being absorbed by water). Adsorption is the physical adherence or bonding of ions and molecules onto the surface of another molecule.

La sorption est l'action d'absorber, d'adsorber ou de désorber. Elle résulte de l'action de molécules de gaz ou de liquide mis en contact avec un matériau solide, et qui adhèrent à sa surface. L'adsorption est la fixation de ces molécules de gaz ou de liquide à la surface, alors que l'absorption est la fixation et la transformation chimique de ces molécules : dans les deux cas, la molécule fixée n'est plus présente dans le solvant.

Sorption ist der Oberbegriff für die Anreicherung eines Stoffes bzw. von Kolloiden oder Partikeln in einem Phasengrenzgebiet, die über die Konzentrationen innerhalb der Phasen hinausgeht (z. B. Absorption, Adsorption, Desorption). Sorption findet vorrangig an den Grenzflächen zwischen flüssiger und fester, sowie zwischen gasförmiger und fester Phase statt, kommt aber auch an Grenzflächen zwischen flüssiger und Gasphase vor.

Sorpcja – pochłanianie  substancji zachodzące na powierzchni (adsorpcja) lub w objętości (absorpcja). Może być procesem chemicznym (chemisorpcja – reakcja powierzchniowa;  reakcja chemiczna w cieczy, np. pochłanianie dwutlenku węgla w roztworze NaOH), czysto fizycznym (fizysorpcja czyli adsorpcja fizyczna – np. zanieczyszczenia na węglu aktywnym; absorpcja – podział substancji pomiędzy 2 fazy ciekłe lub ciekłą i gazową) lub np.  wymianą jonową. Procesom sorpcyjnym często towarzyszą inne, jak powierzchniowe wytrącanie trudnorozpuszczalnych soli (właściwości roztworu przy powierzchni granicy faz są często inne niż w głębi roztworu, np. może być zmieniona przenikalność dielektryczna).
