Soma

Soma (Sanskrit: सोमः), or Haoma (Avestan), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sauma-, was a ritual drink of importance among the early Indo-Iranians, and the later Vedic and greater Persian cultures. It is frequently mentioned in the Rigveda, which contains many hymns praising its energizing qualities. In the Avesta, Haoma has an entire Yasht dedicated to it.

Its borders are Market Street to the north-northwest, the San Francisco Bay to the east, Townsend Street to the south-southeast, and U.S. Highway 101 to the west-southwest. It is the part of the city in which the street grid runs parallel and perpendicular to Market Street. The eastern edge along the Embarcadero and southeastern corner of this area (where Mission Creek meets the bay) is known as South Beach, a separate neighborhood, and the border below Townsend Street begins Mission Bay. The northeastern corner (where Market Street meets the bay) is often considered part of the Financial District.

South of Market ou SoMa (South of Market) est un quartier de San Francisco en Californie. Il est bordé au nord-ouest par Market Street, la baie de San Francisco à l'est, Townsend Street et la Route 101 (Central Freeway). Son plan orthogonal prend appui sur Market Street : les rues du quartier sont parallèles ou perpendiculaire à celle-ci. Au sud-est se trouve le quartier de Mission Bay ; au nord-ouest se trouve le quartier des affaires.

Soma (Sanskrit, m., सोम, soma) ist ein im Rig Veda erwähnter Rauschtrank der Götter und geht dort zurück auf die Arier im Industal um 1500 bis 1000 v. Chr. Es handelte sich zunächst um den berauschenden, mit Milch und Mehl gemischten und einige Zeit der Gärung überlassenen Saft einer Pflanze. Der Name bezeichnet sowohl eine Gottheit als auch eine Pflanze und den daraus bereiteten Trank.
