Solin

Solin (Latin and Italian: Salona) is a town in Dalmatia, Croatia. It is situated 8 km northeast of Split, on the Adriatic Sea and the river Jadro. Solin developed on the location of ancient town of Salona which was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and the birthplace of Emperor Diocletian. After the arrival of Avars and Slavs in the 7th century town was destroyed, and its refugees moved to settlement in and around Diocletian's palace, "Spalatum" (Split), turning it into the fortified town. In the early Middle Ages Solin was part of the Croatian territory and played an important role in Medieval Croatian state, being one of capitol cities.

Solin [] ital. Salona, lat. Salona(e)) ist eine 19.000 Einwohner zählende Kleinstadt in Dalmatien. Die lateinische Bezeichnung soll analog zu anderen Siedlungen in der Gegend mit der Endung -ona auf illyrische Bezeichnungen zurückgehen. Sie liegt an der Adriaküste etwa drei Kilometer nordöstlich von Split an der Mündung des Flusses Jadro.

Solin (łac. Salona) – miasto w Dalmacji (Chorwacja). Położone jest nad rzeką Jadro, 8 km na północny wschód od Splitu. Około 19 tys. mieszkańców (2001).Historycznie Solin położony jest na miejscu starożytnego miasta Salonae (nazwa pochodzi od wydobywanej w okolicy tego miast soli ( po łacinie - sal), które swego czasu było stolicą rzymskiej prowincji Dalmacji. W I wieku Rzymianie zbudowali w mieście amfiteatr, teatry, świątynie, łaźnie i forum. Salonae było w tym czasie najbogatszym i najludniejszym miastem środkowego wybrzeża Adriatyku. Około roku 240 urodził się tu późniejszy cesarz rzymski Dioklecjan.

Solin (Italiaans: Salona) is een stadje in Dalmatië, een streek in Kroatië, aan de Adriatische Zee. In 2001 had het 19011 inwoners en het is een noordelijke voorstad van het bekende Split.Solin was vroeger gekend als Salonae en het was de hoofdstad van de Romeinse provincie Dalmatia en de geboorteplaats van de Romeinse keizer Diocletianus. Deze keizer bouwde nabij de stad een versterkt paleis, waar hij, nadat hij in 305 aftrad, leefde van 305 tot 313 n. Chr. Salonae werd door de Avaren geplunderd in de 6de eeuw en de vluchtelingen van de stad gingen in het versterkte paleis van Diocletianus wonen, en maakten er de versterkte stad Spalatum (Split) van.
