For the art organization see Société Anonyme (art) S.A. generally designates corporations in various countries, mostly those employing the civil law. This translates literally in all languages mentioned as anonymous company or share company and can be differentiated from partnerships and limited liability companies.

Société Anonyme, Inc. was an art organization founded in 1920 by Katherine Dreier, Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp. The society sponsored lectures, concerts, publications, and exhibitions of modern art, including the International Exhibition of Modern Art at the Brooklyn Museum in 1926. Between 1920 and 1940 they held 80 exhibitions showing mostly abstract art.

Spółka akcyjna - rodzaj spółki kapitałowej. W Polsce spółki akcyjne działają obecnie na podstawie kodeksu spółek handlowych, wcześniej regulował ją kodeks handlowy. Kapitał akcyjny spółek akcyjnych podzielony jest na akcje o równej wartości. Akcje te mogą być notowane (kupowane i sprzedawane) na giełdzie. Spółki akcyjne zamiast podania pełnej nazwy mogą używać skrótu S.A. według Kodeksu spółek handlowych, art. 305, par. 2, jednak pod względem ortograficznym poprawnym jest skrót SA, którego nie dopuszcza kodeks (np.: Telewizja Polska SA, Polskie Koleje Państwowe SA, PKS w Katowicach SA).

De naamloze vennootschap is oorspronkelijk gedacht als een vennootschap zonder naam, dat wil zeggen zonder dat de naam van één of meer vennoten er in voorkomt. De vennoten blijven als het ware buiten beeld; zij zijn anoniem. In de praktijk wordt daar niet meer de hand aan gehouden anders zouden namen als Philips of Gevaert uitgesloten zijn voor een nv. Toch is de nv de meest geschikte vennootschap voor grootschalig aandeelhouderschap van vennoten die elkaar niet hoeven te kennen. Als de aandelen aan toonder zijn, dan is het mogelijk dat zelfs de vennootschap of het bestuur niet alle vennoten of aandeelhouders kent. Beperkte aansprakelijkheid en rechtspersoonlijkheid zijn logischerwijs verbonden met deze anonimiteit.
