Slovenia ( , ), officially the Republic of Slovenia (, ) is a Slavic nation state, situated in South-Central Europe, at the crossroad of main European cultural and trade routes. It borders Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Croatia to the south and southeast, and Hungary to the northeast. It covers and has a population of 2.05 million. It is a parliamentary republic, member of the European Union and NATO. Relative to its geography, history, economy, culture, and language, it is a very diverse country distinguished by a transitional character. It is characterised by a high economic and social level. Its capital and largest city is Ljubljana.

Slowenien (slowenisch Slovenija) ist eine Republik in Mitteleuropa, die an Italien, Österreich, Ungarn, Kroatien und die Adria grenzt. Das Land wurde am 1. Mai 2004 als eines von zehn Beitrittsländern ein Mitgliedstaat der  Europäischen Union. Am 1. Januar 2007 wurde der Euro eingeführt, der den slowenischen Tolar ablöste. Vom 1. Januar bis 30. Juni 2008 hatte Slowenien die EU-Ratspräsidentschaft (2008/I) inne.

Het wordt begrensd door Oostenrijk in het noorden, Italië en de Adriatische Zee in het westen, Kroatië in het zuiden en oosten en Hongarije in het noordoosten. Het land is klein, dichtbebost en bergachtig. In het westen heeft het land een korte Adriatische kust.
