Silmarillion

The Silmarillion is a collection of J. R. R. Tolkien's mythopoeic works, edited and published posthumously by his son Christopher Tolkien in 1977, with assistance from Guy Gavriel Kay, who would later become a noted fantasy fiction writer. It tells of the history of the world in which The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are set.

Das Silmarillion ist eine Sammlung unvollendeter Werke J. R. R. Tolkiens, die auf seinen Wunsch nach seinem Tod von seinem Sohn Christopher in überarbeiteter und vervollständigter Form veröffentlicht wurde.Das Silmarillion enthält die kosmogonische und mythologische Vorgeschichte zu Tolkiens großen Romanen Der Hobbit und Der Herr der Ringe. Wie die heiligen Bücher vieler Religionen enthält das Silmarillion mythenähnliche Erzählungen über Entstehung und Geschichte der Welt und das Eingreifen von Göttern, verknüpft mit philosophischen Aspekten. Wie in der Bibel sind die Geschichten von sehr unterschiedlicher Art, darunter fast märchenähnliche Liebesgeschichten, Erzählungen über tragisches Heldentum bis hin zu den hochphilosophischen Teilen am Anfang. Trotzdem ist das Werk ein Ganzes und von Tolkien in dieser Verschiedenartigkeit geplant gewesen.

Silmarillion to obok Władcy Pierścieni jedno z najbardziej znanych dzieł Tolkiena. To od niej Tolkien zaczął pisać dzieje Śródziemia, które zajęły mu całe życie. Pierwsze wersje opowieści wchodzących w jego skład powstały w roku 1917 i były rozwijane z przerwami na Hobbita i Władcę Pierścieni, aż do śmierci pisarza w roku 1973. Książka została ukończona i wydana cztery lata po śmierci autora przez jego syna Christophera. Przed śmiercią autor chciał jeszcze przeredagować dzieło, lecz niestety nie zdążył.

Il Silmarillion è un'opera fantasy, scritta da J. R. R. Tolkien, che narra le vicende di Arda, dalla sua creazione fino all'inizio della Quarta Era. Forse l'opera più amata dal suo autore, essa non è e non vuole essere un romanzo, ma più una sorta di corpus mitologico ideato come cuore dell'universo tolkieniano, una serie di narrazioni e vicende a cui l'autore lavorò per tutta la vita, senza terminarle, utilizzandole nel frattempo quale base per sviluppare alcuni suoi capolavori, quali Il Signore degli Anelli o Lo hobbit. Tolkien non vide mai la pubblicazione del materiale del libro (tranne alcuni brani, che cambiati e riassunti appaiono nelle Appendici de Il Signore degli Anelli), che fu pubblicato (come molti altri) postumo dal suo curatore, che ne integrò le parti mancanti, il figlio Christopher.
