Sikhism

Sikhism (IPA: or ; , , IPA: ) is a religion that began in fifteenth century Northern India with the teachings of Nanak and nine successive human gurus. This system of religious philosophy and expression has been traditionally known as the Gurmat (literally the counsel of the gurus) or the Sikh Dharma. Sikhism comes from the word Sikh, which in turn comes from the Sanskrit root meaning "disciple" or "learner", or meaning "instruction." Sikhism is the fifth-largest religion in the world, and is generally considered the fifth largest organized religion, depending on how one defines an "organized religion".

Die Sikh-Religion (im Panjabi Sikhī, ਸਿੱਖੀ) ist eine im 15. Jahrhundert entstandene Religion, die auf den Stifter Guru Nanak zurückgeht. Die im Panjab (Nord-Indien) begründete Religion – im deutschen Sprachraum auch als Sikhismus bezeichnet – hat über 20 Millionen Anhänger und zählt zu den jüngsten  monotheistischen Weltreligionen.

Sikhizm (pendż. ਸਿੱਖੀ) – religia powstała w XV wieku w Indiach w prowincji Pendżab. Jej założycielem był Guru Nanak. Obecnie na świecie jest ok. 24 milionów wyznawców tej religii (Sikhów) – żyją oni głównie w indyjskim Pendżabie, ale posiadają także liczną kilkumilionową diasporę rozsianą po krajach dawnego Imperium Brytyjskiego i w USA (tu bardzo liczni są również zachodni konwertyci na sikhizm - często w bardzo nieortodoksyjnej formie). Najważniejszym miejscem kultu jest „Złota Świątynia” w Amritsar, w której przechowywany jest oryginał świętej księgi Sikhów zwanej Sri Guru Granth Sahib. W Polsce Gurdwara znajduje się w Raszynie pod Warszawą.
