SHAI
In the British Mandate of Palestine the SHA'I (Sherut ha'Yediot ha'Artzit or National Information Service) was the intelligence and counter-espionage arm of the Haganah and the forebear of Mossad. During World War II the British Special Operations Executive supplied the Haganah with weapons, training and funding and in turn the Haganah provided linguistic experts and SHAI operatives. The British provided commando training for special operations to both SHAI operatives and FOSH veterans through a training school designated ME 102, which was set up by MI4.

For the 1990s R&B group, see Shai (band); for the forebear of Mossad see SHAI. Shai (also spelt Sai, occasionally Shay, and in Greek, Psais) was the deification of the concept of fate in Egyptian mythology. As a concept, with no particular reason for associating with one gender over another, Shai was sometimes considered female, rather than the more usual understanding of being male, in which circumstance Shai was referred to as Shait (simply the feminine form of the name). His name reflects his function, as it means (that which is) ordained.

Shai
[Egyptian] The Egyptian goddess/personification of Fate. Her name and that of Shai (Fortune) are usually found coupled. They are said to be in the hands of Thoth, the divine intelligence of of the gods. Rameses II boasted that he himself is "lord of Shai and creator of Renenet." Shai was originally the deity who "fated" what should happen to a man. There was little or no distinction between Shai and Renenet and the abstract ideas which they represented. In the Papyrus of Ani, Shai stands by himself near the pillar of Balance.
