Shabbat (, Ashkenazi pronunciation: Shabbos, , in English: the Sabbath, "rest" or "cessation") is the seventh day of the Jewish week and the Jewish day of rest. On Shabbat, Jews recall the Biblical Creation account in Genesis in which God creates the Heavens and the Earth in six days and rests on the seventh.

Der Sabbat (hebräisch: , Plural: Schabbatot; aschkenasische Aussprache: , jiddisch: Schabbes, deutsch: „Ruhetag, Ruhepause“) ist im Judentum der siebte Wochentag, ein Ruhetag, an dem keine Arbeit verrichtet werden soll. Er beginnt wie alle Tage im jüdischen Kalender gemäß Gen 1,5 am Abend und dauert von Sonnenuntergang am Freitag bis zum Eintritt der Dunkelheit am folgenden Samstagabend. Er trägt schon im Tanach einen eigenen Namen, während die übrigen Wochentage im Hebräischen bis heute mit ihren Ordinalzahlen benannt werden.

Le chabbat ou shabbat (hébreu : שבת - abstention) ou shabbes en yiddish est le jour de repos assigné au septième jour — le chiffre 7 se dit cheva en hébreu — de la semaine juive, qui commence le dimanche.
Il est observé, du vendredi avant le coucher du soleil au samedi après la sortie des étoiles, par beaucoup de juifs, indépendamment de leur degré de pratique. Il existe des tableaux (lou'hot) des heures dites distribuées dans la plupart des communautés.

Shabbat, även shabbos eller shabbes, på svenska sabbat, är beteckningen på den judiska vilodagen. Shabbat firas varje vecka, från solnedgången fredag kväll tills "tre stjärnor syns" på lördag kväll, för att ge möjlighet att begrunda världens skapelse. Shabbat har mycket stor vikt i den judiska religionen, vilket gör den till en av de viktigaste högtiderna.

Szabat, Szabas, Sabat, sobota (hebr. שבת, odpoczynek)- w judaizmie i tradycji chrześcijańskiej, ostatni (siódmy) dzień każdego tygodnia (czyli sobota). W judaizmie i niektórych kościołach chrześcijańskich (m.in. adwentyści, Baptyści Dnia Siódmego, część zielonoświątkowców i niektórych wspólnot protestanckich) obchodzony jako dzień święty - na pamiątkę biblijnego aktu stworzenia.
