Shaanxi

(; Postal map spelling: Shensi) is a north-central province of the People's Republic of China, and includes portions of the Loess Plateau on the middle reaches of the Yellow River as well as the Qinling Mountains across the southern part of the province.By regular Hanyu Pinyin rules, if tone marks are not written, both Shaanxi and the neighbouring province of Shanxi should be spelled "Shanxi"; the difference is in tone: Shānxī and Shǎnxī. To make the difference clear without tonal marks, the spelling "Shaanxi" was contrived (following the romanization system of Yuen Ren Chao) for the province of Shǎnxī, while "Shanxi" is used for the province of Shānxī. It is also the official spelling on Chinese Government's official web portal.

Angrenzende Provinzen sind die Innere Mongolei, Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Gansu und Ningxia. Die meisten Großstädte liegen im dicht besiedelten Tal des Wei-Flusses, wie auch die Provinzhauptstadt Xi'an. In der Wei-Fluss-Ebene leben zwei Drittel der Bevölkerung. Auf der Lößhochebene wird die Landwirtschaft durch Wassermangel und strenge Winter beeinträchtigt.

Od południa ograniczone górami Qinling.Jej nazwa pochodzi od historycznego powiatu Shǎn (陕) i znaczy tyle, co "Na Zachód od Shan". Zapisuje się ją jednak przez podwójne "a" dla odróżnienia od prowincji Shanxi, której nazwa w transkrypcji pinyin brzmi Shānxī.

La provincia dello Shaanxi è una provincia nord-occidentale della Repubblica Popolare Cinese e comprende parti dell' altopiano Loess, lungo il corso intermedio del Fiume Giallo, e la catena montuosa merdionale Qinling.Secondo le regole Hanyu Pinyin sia la provincia dello Shaanxi, sia la vicina provincia dello Shanxi, dovrebbero scriversi "Shanxi" con differenze nella pronuncia: Shanxi e Shanxi rispettivamente. Per differenziare in modo chiaro le due province, per la provincia con pronuncia Shanxi viene usata la forma scritta Shaanxi.
