Semois

Semois (in French: Semoy, German: Sesbach, Walloon: Simwès) is a river in the Ardennes in Belgium and France. It is a right tributary to the river Meuse. The source of the Semois is in Arlon, in the Belgian province Luxembourg, close to the border with Luxembourg. The Semois flows roughly in western direction. It crosses the French border 26 km before it flows into the river Meuse in the town Monthermé. Its total length is 210 km. Towns along the Semois are Chiny, Florenville, Herbeumont, Bouillon (including the localities of Dohan and Poupehan) and Vresse-sur-Semois with Bohan sur Semois as most well known village (all in Belgium).

La Semois (ou Semoy pour sa partie coulant en France ; Sesbach en allemand ; Simwès en wallon) est une rivière qui prend sa source à Arlon en Belgique, se dirige vers la Gaume puis l'Ardenne, en traversant entre autres Fouches, Sampont, Étalle, Tintigny, Florenville, Chiny, Herbeumont, Cugnon, Auby-sur-Semois, Dohan, Bouillon, Poupehan, Frahan, Rochehaut, Nohan, Vresse-sur-Semois. Elle entre en France à hauteur du village de Les Hautes-Rivières pour se jeter dans la Meuse à Monthermé, 10 km après avoir quitté la Belgique.

Er durchfließt in tiefen Taleinschnitten stark mäandrierend die südlichen Ardennen, kreuzt zwischen Bohan und Les Hautes Rivières die belgisch-französische Grenze und mündet nach 210 km Länge bei Monthermé in die Maas.
