The (abbreviated to SMS) is a third-generation video game console that was manufactured and released by Sega in 1985 in Japan (as the Sega Mark III), 1986 in North America and 1987 in Europe.

Das Sega Master System (kurz SMS; jap. , Masuta Shisutemu) ist eine cartridge-basierende 8-bit-Videospielkonsole von Sega. Sie stand in direkter Konkurrenz zum Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Das Maskottchen des Systems war Alex Kidd.

Sega Master System
Sega Master System (SMS) är en 8-bitars spelkonsol utvecklad av Sega och släppt i oktober 1985 i Japan under namnet SG-1000 Mark III. En omdesignad version släpptes i juni 1986 i USA under namnet Sega Master System. I oktober 1987 släpptes Master System även i Japan, trots att det i princip är samma konsol som SG-1000 Mark III. Dess största konkurrent var Nintendo Entertainment System.

Sega Master System (SMS) (jap.: マスターシステム), 8-bitowa konsola na kartridże produkowana przez firmę Sega.
Konsola "SMS" była oparta na innej konsoli firmy Sega SG-1000 Mark III (która z kolei wywodzi się od SG-1000 Mark I i SG-1000 Mark II) – w Japonii Mark III oficjalnie weszła na rynek 20 października 1985, maskotką systemu był Alex Kidd, a w nieco zmienionej wersji, już jako "SMS", zadebiutowała w Stanach Zjednoczonych w czerwcu 1986, rok po wejściu na rynek konsoli Nintendo Entertainment System.
