Secondary Recovery

The injection of water into an underground petroleum deposit to force the remaining oil into recovery wells. This technique is used to recover additional oil from old wells following the removal of the oil that can be easily pumped to the surface (Primary Recovery). Also referred to as Enhanced Oil Recovery. Also see Injection and Recharge.

The extraction of oil from a field beyond what can be recovered by normal methods of flowing or pumping the use of waterflooding, gas injection, and other methods to recover additional amounts of oil.

RECUPERAÇÃO ARTIFICIAL - Recuperação artificial do petróleo por algum meio, tal como a injeção de água ou gás (veja WATER FLOODING). Normalmente usada quando o poço está se esgotando.
