Scud

Scud is a series of tactical ballistic missiles developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War and exported widely to other countries. The term comes from the NATO reporting name SS-1 Scud which was attached to the missile by Western intelligence agencies. The Russian names for the missile are the R-11 (the first version), R-17 and R-300 Elbrus (later developments). The name Scud has been used by media and other entities to refer to not only these missiles but to the wide variety of missiles developed in other countries based on the Soviet design. Occasionally in the United States news media, Scud is applied to any country's ballistic missiles not of Western origin.

Le terme Scud désigne une série de missiles balistiques à courte portée développés dans les années 1950 par l'Union soviétique. Le terme provient de la désignation OTAN (SS-1b Scud-A) du missile soviétique R-11 et de ses déclinaisons postérieures les missiles R-17 et R-300 Elbrus, respectivement désignés à l'Ouest comme SS-1c Scud-B et SS-1d Scud-C. La première version du R-11 fut déployée en 1957 par l'Union Soviétique.

Scud ist die NATO-Bezeichnung für die sowjetische bzw. russische ballistische Boden-Boden-Rakete R-11 (DIA-Code SS-1b, GRAU-Index 8K11) und später R-17 (DIA-Code SS-1c, GRAU-Index 8K14) . Die Scud-Raketen gehören zur Klasse der Kurzstreckenraketen (SRBM).

Scud - NATO-wskie oznaczenie serii taktycznych pocisków balistycznych opracowanych w latach zimnej wojny przez ZSRR i eksportowanych do krajów będących w strefie wpływów i zainteresowania Związku Radzieckiego.Nazwa według kodu NATO brzmi SS-1 Scud, została przypisana pociskowi przez zachodnie służby specjalne. W rosyjskim nazewnictwie określany jest jako R-11 (nazwa dotyczy pierwszych konstrukcji), R-17 oraz R-300 Elbrus (zestaw R-17 z pociskami 9K72).Prace nad R-11 rozpoczęły się w 1945 w Specjalnym Biurze Projektowym OKB-1 pod kierunkiem Sergieja Koroliowa. Na podstawie planów konstrukcyjnych niemieckiej rakiety V-2, opracowano  prototyp rakiety o nazwie R-1 (oznaczenie NATO SS-1A Scunner) który przeszedł testy w 1948 i wszedł na wyposażenie wojsk radzieckich w 1950 roku jako R-11 (wg NATO SS-1b Scud-A). Był to pocisk balistyczny o krótkim zasięgu (SRBM) o zasięgu do 180 km, napędzany paliwem ciekłym, mogący przenosić głowicę jądrową o mocy 50 kiloton.
