Scottish people

The Scottish people (Scottish Gaelic: Albannach) are a nation and an ethnic group indigenous to Scotland. As an ethnic group, Scots are a composition of groups such as Picts, Gaels, Brythons, Angles, and Norse. In modern use, "Scottish people" or "Scots" refers to anyone born or living in Scotland; or a person who is descended from ethnic Scots and identifies as a Scottish person. Synonyms for the Scottish people include Scots and, though sometimes considered archaic or pejorative, Scotch. While the Latin word Scoti originally applied to an Irish/Scottish Gaelic tribe in the north of Ireland and western Scotland that lived in the northern part of Ireland, and the western part of what is now Scotland in the 5th century the term Scots is now used to describe all Scottish people.

Die Schotten (Eigenbezeichnung Gáidheal) sind die Bewohner Schottlands, einem Teil Großbritanniens. Schottland besitzt zirka 5,3 Millionen Einwohner – das entspricht etwa 9 % der Bevölkerung des Vereinigten Königreichs. Davon wohnen 65 % im zentralen Lowland. 1,5 er Schotten sprechen Schottisch-Gälisch; Hauptsprache ist Englisch.

Schotten ist eine Stadt in der Mitte Hessens. Die nächst größeren Städte sind Alsfeld im Norden, Fulda im Osten, Friedberg (Hessen) im Süden und Gießen im Westen.

Schotten (Schots-Gaelisch:Albannaich, of waar het Hooglanders betreft, Gàidheil. Scots: Scots) is een verzamelnaam voor de (voormalige) bewoners van Schotland. Het wordt ook wel gebruikt voor diegenen die de Schotse taal spreken.
