Saxony

The Free State of Saxony ( ; ) is the easternmost federal state of Germany. Located in the country's southeast, it is the tenth-largest in area and sixth-largest in population among Germany's sixteen states, and has a land area of 18,413 km² and a population of 4.3 million. Saxony has a long history as a duchy, an electorate of the Holy Roman Empire (the Electorate of Saxony), and eventually as a kingdom (the Kingdom of Saxony). Its monarchy was overthrown in 1918 and a republican form of government was established under its current name subsequent to Germany's defeat in World War I. Abolished during communist rule, it was re-established at 3 October 1990 during the re-unification of East and West Germany.

Der Freistaat Sachsen (obersorbisch: Swobodny stat Sakska, niedersorbisch: Zwezkowy kraj Sakska), ist ein Land im mittel-östlichen Teil Deutschlands. Er grenzt im Norden an Brandenburg, im Nordwesten an Sachsen-Anhalt, im Westen an den Freistaat Thüringen und im Südwesten an den Freistaat Bayern. Außerdem hat er eine gemeinsame Grenze im Süden mit Tschechien und im Osten mit Polen. Seine Landeshauptstadt ist Dresden.

Wolny Kraj Saksonia (śrdw.-łac. Saxonia, kraina Sasów; niem. Freistaat Sachsen, górnołuż. Swobodny stat Sakska, dolnołuż. Zwězkowy kraj Sakska) – kraj związkowy w Niemczech  graniczący z Polską, Czechami i z następującymi krajami związkowymi: Bawaria, Turyngia, Saksonia-Anhalt i Brandenburgia. Został utworzony w 1990 roku po zjednoczeniu Niemiec. Obejmuje on w przybliżeniu obszar dawnego królestwa Saksonii (patrz historia poniżej). Pod względem powierzchni Saksonia jest dziesiątym, a pod względem liczby ludności, szóstym spośród 16 niemieckich krajów związkowych. Nazwa pochodzi od łacińskiego słowa saxum - skała z powodu charakterystycznych czarnych saksońskich skał.

Con una superficie di 18.400 km² e una popolazione di 4,6 milioni di abitanti, la Sassonia (in tedesco Sachsen, in sorabo Sakska) è il decimo per area, ma sesto per popolazione tra i sedici Bundesländer (stati federali) della Germania. Creato a seguito della riunificazione tedesca nel 1990, occupa all'incirca l'area dell'ex regno che portava lo stesso nome (1806-1918). La capitale è Dresda.
