The Saxon triangle is a
metropolitan area of
Germany consisting of the
cities of
Chemnitz,
Dresden,
Halle,
Leipzig and
Zwickau. These cities are arranged into three
agglomeration areas. The metropolitan area is characterized by long distances between the agglomeration areas, which can be seen as the corners of the
triangle. Other large towns include
Altenburg,
Freiberg,
Meißen,
Pirna and
Riesa. The
population of the area is about 3,200,000 and about 1,800,000 in the three agglomerations.
