Sasser (computer worm)

The Sasser (sometimes known as the Big One) is a computer worm that affects computers running vulnerable versions of the Microsoft operating systems Windows XP and Windows 2000. Some machines running Windows 98 were infected. Like other worms, Sasser spreads by exploiting the system through a vulnerable network port. Thus it is particularly potent in that it can spread without the help of the user, but it is also easily stopped by a properly configured firewall, or by downloading patches from Windows Update [1]. The specific hole Sasser exploits is documented by Microsoft in its MS04-011 bulletin, for which a patch had been released seventeen days earlier.

Sasser est un ver informatique qui se propage de manière différente des classiques MyDoom.A et dérivés. Les premières infections ont eu lieu le 30 avril 2004 sur les machines sur lesquelles le correctif de sécurité fourni par Microsoft depuis le n'avait pas été appliqué.

Sasser (Bedeutung des Namens: Wortspiel aus dem englischen Verb „to sass“ – „freche Antworten geben“ und der Tatsache, dass er den Dienst LSASS ausnutzt) ist der Name eines Computerwurms, der sich Anfang Mai 2004 in hoher Geschwindigkeit auf Computern mit den Microsoft-Betriebssystemen Windows 2000 sowie Windows XP verbreitete. Sein „offizieller“ Name ist W32.Sasser. Unter den betroffenen Systemen waren Computer bei Banken, Reiseunternehmen und öffentlichen Einrichtungen. Betroffen waren die Computer der deutschen Postbank, der finnischen Sampo Bank, der Delta Air Lines und der Europäischen Kommission sowie weiterer Unternehmen und Behörden weltweit. Der Programmierer von Sasser, ein damals 17-jähriger Schüler aus Waffensen, einem Ortsteil der Stadt Rotenburg (Wümme), wurde am 7. Mai 2004 vorübergehend festgenommen. Der Informatikschüler (Berufsfachschule) ist auch für die Viren der Netsky-Reihe verantwortlich.

Sasser to robak komputerowy (ang. computer worm), który pojawił się w 2004 roku i rozprzestrzenia się na komputerach z zainstalowanym systemem operacyjnym Windows 2000 lub Windows XP.Pierwsze pojawienie robaka miało miejsce 30 kwietnia 2004 roku i pierwotną jego wersję oznaczono jako Sasser.A. W ciągu kilku następnych dni pojawiły się mutacje robaka oznaczane kolejnymi literami alfabetu Sasser.B-Sasser.D. Wirus nie wymaga interakcji ze strony użytkownika, wykorzystuje bezpośrednio porty 445 i 139 (NetBIOS). Jego obecność objawiała się m.in. nagłym wyłączaniem się komputera. Ofiarą robaka stała się m.in. niemiecka poczta.

Notato per la prima volta il 30 aprile 2004, ben presto si è diffuso a macchia d'olio.Aggredisce i sistemi operativi Windows 2000 e Windows XP, sfruttando un baco del componente LSASS (Local Security Authority Subsystem Service) causando un buffer overflow. La Microsoft aveva reso disponibile un aggiornamento del programma il 14 aprile 2004. Il fatto che il worm sia apparso pochi giorni dopo la patch che eliminava l'inconveniente, porta a pensare che esso sia stato realizzato applicando alla patch stessa delle tecniche di reverse engineering e prevedendo di infettare i milioni di computer su cui la patch non era stata installata.
